jackie and katy's evaluation

From the devising piece the strengths within the performance was when ;
  • we used multimedia to show the audience what the piece was going to be about, at the beginning of the piece  we used the projection to show how police act toward people and what stop and search had led to. we also used multimedia at different parts of the piece. we used sound effects and music to set different atmospheres.

  •  we used proxemics in our piece to communicate the perception of the police as hunters of young people, we did this by moving in large group in unison to show that were trying to intimidate young people. we used the sound effects of us stamping our feet as an ensemble  to show how intimidating the police were, also the music we used was a panic song and it helped build tension and suspense leaving the audience to wonder what was going to happen next.

  • we used projection with our vocal range, body language and facial expressions when we had to come out of the frozen image from the party scene to shout out names people call the police. We had to go from happy to angry, upset and fed up and we had to use our body language, facial expression and vocal range to show the anger within us.
The strengths within the performance of the scripted play was when;

  • we worked an ensemble with the transitions and help lift things and put them on stage for the next group or take things on.

  • we also used clarity so that our words were clear and the audience would be able to understand what we were talking about, especially when we were saying the slang words.eg when I said 'Ejut' I had to make it clear I meant idiot.

  • we used projection quite well because we were able to project our words to the back of the theatre without shouting, we were also able to use different pitch to create an effect
the less successful aspects of our scripted play was when

  • We had to keep the play going  because the pace of the transitions was very slow so we had to give our self jobs to do in order to help with the transiting, e.g. I had to take off a chair for a scene and bring in a bench for other scene, we all had different things to do in order to keep up the pace and give it a sleeker transition. however not everyone did what they were suppose to do so it was a bit slow. to improve that I think people should do their assigned jobs next time.

  • there were parts of the play were some words were unclear because they were rushed, so we need to work on our vocal clarity, in order to improve this weaker aspect I think we could have said the words slowly and more clearly, articulation can also help.

the less successful aspects of the device piece was when;
  • some members of the group forgot their lines and came out of character , in order to improve this I think they should have took more time to learn their line and even when they forgot their line they shouldn't have came out of character and kept going.

  • some one dropped the ball and totally blanked out, however one of the group member picked up the ball and kept on going by saying that other persons lines.
from the two very opposite style of acting I have learnt that there are different ways of acting, I also learnt that some type of acting gives you more freedom in order to do what you want and be more creative whilst others have different structures that you have to follow however you can play around with It a bit and take risk.

the main difference of performing with a scripted piece and in a device piece is that in the device piece you do research for you to analyse and improve on it, add ideas and make them better but the scripted piece you have to follow the structure, understand the word and portray the meaning through the way you speak and act, also you have to understand the script and keep reading it over and over again in order to understand the script.

the main things I found difficult in making the device piece was coming to college on time and being able to express my ideas more,  what I found difficult in the performance was singing with my chest down on the floor whilst am trying to catch my breathe at the last scene. however the main things I found challenging about the scripted play was listening and reacting to each other, I had to think a lot more and watch different types of plays that has to do with my scene.
 overall the I enjoyed doing both of the piece together but my most favourite one was the devising piece because there was more freedom, we were able to express different ideas and be creative. I also enjoyed it because it was different to they style of acting I have ever done.
