For the second lesson we were introduced to Konstantin Stanislavski and his techniques

Constantin Stanislavski was a Russian stage actor and director, he believed in naturalistic performances that were as realistic as possible, and he developed the naturalistic performance technique known as the "Stanislavsky method".

  1. Image result for stanislavski methodsEmotion Memory;requires that an actor think of an event from the past in order to regenerate the feelings they experienced at that time. These feelings that have been regenerated are then used in the current acting for example ;As an assignment we were told to think of a time we felt really upset , frightened or angry. And to come back and describe what happened and also where we were,we had to describe the feel, the surrounding , the sound, the time of day etc. We had to give as much detail as possible. this is linked to emotion memory because it will help us explore having to regenerate emotions in order to used them whilst acting.
  2. If ; this technique means that the actor puts themselves into the character’s situation. e.g,  'What would I do if I was in this situation?'
  3. methods of physical actions;
  4. subtext; The script of a play could be called the text. The subtext is the actual meaning and motivation behind the lines that are spoken and the actions taken.
  5. Given circumstance;The given circumstances are the information about the character that you start off with , How old is the character? What’s their situation in the play and in relation to the other characters? etc.
  6. Objective; An objective is the reason for our actions, what are we trying to achieve?
  7. Super-objective; is what the character wants most in the play.
  8. through line; is what links a character’s actions together and pushes them forward through a scene.

After learning about Stanislavski we then had to do an exercise on naturalism and we did a few tableaus to represent the words that were given for example anger, we had to do a  tableau that represents anger and we had to show it through our faces and body as a group.

what went well in that lesson was that I was able to understand the techniques that stanislavski had invented, also I was able to apply it to the way I was acting.

  1. You need to explain some of Stanislavski's techniques . Research into Stanislavski needs to be much more thorough than this.
